Senator Whitaker Visits Lagoon Bridge
Updated: Aug 4, 2022
Senator Whitaker and members of her team visited the Lagoon area on July 8, 2022. Senator Whitaker has been addressing the docks with Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources and Commissioner Derek Gabriel of the Department of Public Works since last year. Specifically, officially on November 4, 2021, Senator Whitaker followed up with Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol on the status of the rebuilding of the Lagoon Bridge, lights, Gallow's Bay Fisherman’s dock "Panchi's dock" (note that Senator Whitaker has been following up on Panchi's dock for her entire term) and other docks. Senator Whitaker learned that Commissioner Jean-Pierre L. Oriol approved the permits for the Department of Public Works since Spring 2021. Senator Whitaker made contact with Commissioner Derek Gabriel on December 20, 2021, in his statements he discussed that the bridge is one of the sites for their current design-build project with VI Paving; it is currently in design with the contractor and would be addressed in the first quarter of 2022. As mentioned before Senator Whitaker visited the Lagoon site, while checking out the area the senator met with Shawn McConnell, VI Paving Operations Manager, who discussed the lagoon project and other future projects he and his team are working on for the island of St. Croix. Additionally, Senator Whitaker got a chance to chat with constituents at the lagoon who spoke about different roads and other constituent matters on St. Croix they hope to see the Virgin Islands Government continue to work on in the future. It was a productive day for everyone and we will continue to conduct follow-ups to ensure all projects are done and done properly.
