Senator Whitaker's Response to the Waste Haulers Protest

Updated: Aug 4, 2022

Senator Genevieve Whitaker and her team came out to hear from the St. Croix Waste Haulers who have decided to stop collecting waste throughout St. Croix until they’re paid what’s owed to them by the Virgin Islands Waste Management. The protest took place in front of Anguilla Landfill on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. According to executives of Marco, Just Right Trucking, Goldmine Trash Removal, and Bates Trucking they’re owed a million of dollars even after meeting with the Waste Management Director Roger Merritt and Governor Albert Bryan Jr. on numerous occasions. Senator Whitaker understands the reasons behind the high tension with the protesters from the inception and even before serving as a Senator, has acted by ensuring that all hardworking employees of the Virgin Islands are being compensated for the critical work they do in the community day by day. Senator Whitaker raised concerns about the Waste Haulers being able to fulfill their financial obligations not just to conduct business but to maintain their employees. Inflation has become a serious problem all over the world, and right here in our backyard. These companies have seen an increase in fuel, parts, and equipment, which can lead to complications in conducting proper business. Let's work collectively as a community to get to the bottom of this crisis; no more excuses or blaming. It is time to put an end to this.
